Laura Siegemund vs Caty McNally prediction
Laura Siegemund competed at the Korea Open last week but lost in the first-round despite a strong start against Sofia Kenin. The German lost 2-6 6-3 7-5. She had equalled her best run at the US Open at the end of August and reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals earlier this season, going close to a landmark win against world number Aryna Sabalenka but losing in a close three set contest.
Caty McNally is her opponent in the first-round. The American is currently ranked 90 in the world. She has shown some strong form on the ITF circuit, with two titles in Newport and Evansville, and making another final. McNally’s best run on the WTA Tour saw her make the third-round at the Canadian Open. Her last event was also in Seoul, and she too lost in the first-round.
Siegemund’s unconventional approach, which utilises variety, drop shots and slices, could frustrate the 23-year-old and she’s a slight favourite to get through this one.
