Kayla Day comfortably defeated Francesca Jones to advance to the second-round of Indian Wells. Day needed to qualify for this event and is ranked over 90 places below Jones, but she dominated throughout, not losing her serve and breaking on four occasions to win 6-3 6-1 after one hour and 13 minutes.
Iga Swiatek is her next opponent. The two-time champion at Indian Wells is seeking a third title.
