Katie Volynets vs Jelena Ostapenko prediction
Katie Volynets is through to the second-round of Indian Wells after her opponent Rebecca Sramkova retired. Volynets had taken the first set 6-1. Her best result of the season so far is a semi-final appearance in Ostrava, where she lost to eventual winner Katie Boulter in straight sets.
She now faces Jelena Ostapenko, with the Latvian receiving a bye in the first-round. She got through to the semi-finals at the Qatar Open, but was unable to go any further as she lost to Victoria Mboko. That was a positive showing from Ostapenko, but she has failed to make an impact elsewhere. The 2017 French Open winner lost in the second-round of the Australian Open and suffered an early exit in Dubai to Anna Kalinskaya, despite taking the first set.
Ostapenko’s recent results here have mixed, but she did make the last four here in 2021. The Latvian is always capable of stringing a run of results together.
