Katie Boulter vs Leylah Fernandez prediction

Katie Boulter looked on course for the third-round of the French Open for the first time in her career as she took the first set against Anastasia Potapova in her second-round match, but her opponent would come back to win in three. The former British number one will now set her sights on the grass court season, beginning at Queen’s Club. Boulter reached the second-round of this event last year.

She will face Leylah Fernandez, with the Canadian seeded at eight for this tournament. Despite an encouraging clay court season for the most part, which saw Fernandez make the quarter-finals at events in Stuttgart, Madrid and Strasbourg, she was unable to convert that momentum into a strong showing at Roland Garros as she was beaten in round one by Alycia Parks in straight sets. Furthermore, she lost in the first-round of this event last year to eventual champion Tatjana Maria.

Boutler is a strong player on this surface, having won two grass court titles on the WTA Tour, and she will also have support from the home crowd. This is a very tough first-round match for Fernandez.

Katie Boulter vs Leylah Fernandez tip: Both players to win a set
