Mirra Andreeva vs Coco Gauff prediction
Mirra Andreeva continued her best ever run at the US Open as she came from a set down to beat Anastasia Potapova. The French Open champion struggled with errors during the opening set but gradually found her rhythm, levelling the match before taking control of the decider. Potapova suffered an apparent leg problem during the final set but completed the match, with Andreeva sealing a 5-7 6-4 6-3 win. The 19-year-old had defeated Nikola Bartunkova in round three.
Coco Gauff enjoyed a far more comfortable match in the round-of-16, beating fellow American Iva Jovic in straight sets. The fourth seed has still not dropped a set in New York and extended her winning streak to 10 matches after arriving in Flushing Meadows on the back of the Cincinnati Open title. Gauff won 6-1 6-4.
Gauff has dominated this matchup historically. She has won all five previous tour-level meetings, including both of their two encounters in Rome over the past two seasons. Andreeva did push her much closer in May, taking the opening set before Gauff recovered to win. The American arrives in better form, has yet to concede a set and has repeatedly demonstrated that her defence and physicality can frustrate Andreeva.
