Alexander Zverev will aim to reach a third straight Grand Slam final when he takes on Karen Khachanov in New York.
The German has grown as a force throughout the tournament and cruised to a 6-2 7-5 6-1 win over Botic van de Zandschulp last time out.
The top seed will now meet Khachanov for the tenth time after the world number 50 progressed when Alexander Balockx retired with the Russian leading 6-2 7-5 3-2.
Zverev leads this match-up 6-3 and they split their two meetings last year, although Sascha has won four of their last five encounters.
It’s perhaps notable that only two of their matches have gone beyond straight sets, but this does feel like a battle in waiting with Zverev highly likely to come out on top, but Khachanov should have a say in a big-serving match that is a good shout to go beyond three.
