Aryna Sabalenka continued her pursuit of a third consecutive US Open title with a straight sets win over Taylor Townsend. The world number one was tested by the American, who recovered from going an early break down in the first set and also went 3-1 up in the second. However, the world number one, who is still yet to drop a set at the event, reeled off the final five games to complete a 6-4 6-3 victory. Sabalenka has now won her last 17 matches at Flushing Meadows.

Her next opponent is Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova. The Czech came through a tight three set match with Marta Kostyuk. Noskova missed a match point when serving at 5-4 up in the second set, with Kostyuk winning three games in a row to level the match. The pair exchanged breaks in the decider, but Noskova closed it out to win 7-5 5-7 6-4 after two hours and 27 minutes. Noskova had previously survived another three-set battle against Ann Li in round three.

Sabalenka leads the head-to-head 2-0 and won their most recent meeting at Indian Wells earlier this season in straight sets. This will be her toughest test of the tournament so far, as Noskova possesses the serve and the flat, aggressive groundstrokes to trouble the 28-year-old.
