Karen Khachanov is eyeing a second semi-final appearance at the US Open after battling back to end the hopes of home favourite Learner Tien.
The Russian reached the final four at Flushing Meadows back in 2022 and is now one win away from a return to that stage after edging to a 7-5 4-6 6-7 6-1 6-4 success against the American 14th seed.
World number 50, Khachanov will now meet 28th seed Alexander Blockx for the first time after the young Belgian made it to his maiden Grand Slam quarter-final with a four-set victory over Francisco Cerundolo.
Blockx had his leg heavily strapped and needed treatment in his rib area under his serving arm in, at times, an error-strewn tussle with the Argentine. It remains to be seen how he recovers, but if he is fit, he will be highly competitive.
Khachanov will definitely be up for the battle here and if his past is anything to go by, this is likely to be another gruelling match that goes beyond three.
