Katie Boulter advanced to the next round of the Miami Open after defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. The first set was a mammoth affair, with Boulter breaking Bouzas Maneiro as the Spaniard served for it, before remarkably saving six set points in the tiebreak, winning 11-9. Boulter went on to win 7-6 (9) 6-4. The former British number one has already picked up a title this season, at the Ostrava Open at the start of last month.
She now faces Clara Tauson, with the Dane receiving a bye in the first-round. Tauson could only make the third-round of Indian Wells as she lost to Talia Gibson in three sets. That would have been a disappointment for the 23-year-old after a strong showing in Dubai a few weeks earlier, where she reached the quarter-finals.
Tauson leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a straight sets win at the Thoreau Tennis Open in 2022. She is the favourite for this one, and could dominate on serve, but Boulter has performed well in recent weeks and should be a tricky opponent.
