Katerina Siniakova is through to the third-round of the Madrid Open after getting past Anna Blinkova in straight sets. Siniakova fired 24 winners on her way to claiming a 6-2 6-2 victory after just an hour and 12 minutes.
She now takes on Caty McNally. The American pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the previous round as she defeated Victoria Mboko comfortably. Mboko has been one of the most consistent performers this season, with two final appearances and a number of other deep runs, but she was simply no match for McNally, who won 6-4 6-1. She broke Mboko’s serve on four separate occasions, won 80% of her first serve points and conceded just the one break point.
They played once before, in the qualifying stage of the Wuhan Open last year, with Siniakova beating McNally 7-5 6-3. McNally will be full of confidence after such a brilliant win, and this has the makings of a competitive encounter.
