Katerina Siniakova produced her joint-best singles result of the season last week as she reached the semi-finals in Seoul. The Czech won five matches in a row, including the two qualifying stages, before her run ended at the hands of Ekaterina Alexandrova in the last four. Nevertheless, this was a timely return to form after early defeats in New York and Guadalajara.
Anastasia Potapova has not competed since her straight sets defeat to Mirra Andreeva in the second-round of the US Open. She has failed to win consecutive matches at a tournament since her run to the round-of-16 in Madrid in late April. She also has a negative record on outdoor hard court this season, with 10 defeats from 17 matches.
Siniakova leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a victory in Adelaide two years ago. She will be raring to go after her exploits in Seoul and will fancy her chances of victory against Potapova.
