Katarzyna Kawa’s form has taken a slide since reaching the final of the Bastad Open on the Challenger Tour, where she lost to Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The Pole then failed to win a match at her next three tournaments, including Cincinnati and the US Open, and she could only make the second-round here in the 125 edition last week.
Iva Jovic is a player with plenty of promise at just 17-years-old. She turned heads last month with her run to the third-round of the Cincinnati Open as a lucky loser. She won her first-round match at the US Open for the second year running but could go no further after a loss in round two to two-time Grand Slam finalist Jasmine Paolini. She also has two lower-level title wins in Ilkley and Charlottesville this year.
They have played once before, with Jovic winning 6-3 7-6 in the qualifying stages of Wimbledon this year. Jovic is strong value to come through this and advance to round two.
