Karolina Pliskova vs Sinja Kraus prediction
Karolina Pliskova competed in her first event for nearly two months at the Linz Open. She began with a win over Aliaksandra Sasnovich and then pulled off an upset as she beat Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. Her run would end in the quarter-finals against Donna Vekic, but that was an encouraging showing from the former world number one, who missed most of the 2025 season due to injury.
Her first-round opponent in Madrid is Sinja Kraus. The Austrian qualified for this event, beating Martina Trevisan and then defeating Anastasia Potapova in three sets. Kraus is performing well, as she only just reached the final of a WTA 125 event in Oerias earlier this month.
The 23-year-old does trail Pliskova in the head-to-head, with the Czech winning their previous encounter at the 2024 Transylvania Open on her way to the title. Kraus does have momentum, but Pliskova has all the experience and knows how to pick up results on the surface.
