Karolina Pliskova vs Ekaterina Alexandrova prediction
Ekaterina Alexandrova kicks off her title defence against Karolina Pliskova in Linz.
The Russian is bidding to reach a third straight final at the tournament but faces an immediate test against the veteran Czech.
Pliskova took down Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4 6-4 and is a greater threat than her ranking of 258 in the world suggests.
This will be their sixth meeting but a first since 2023. Alexandrova trails 2-3 but has won the last two, including a 6-3 6-1 victory in Charleston four years ago.
Pliskova is looking more like her old self and knows the second seed has struggled for form recently.
There’s certainly scope for an upset in indoor conditions, but Ekaterina’s comfort at this event and the recent head-to-head means we’d stick with her on this one.
