Karolina Muchova vs Sorana Cirstea prediction
Karolina Muchova reached the final here last year, losing to Coco Gauff. She is the 13th seed in Beijing and will be hoping for a similarly deep run this time around. She enjoyed a productive US Open as she made the quarter-finals, where she lost to four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in straight sets. She also got through to two hard court semi-finals in Linz and Dubai earlier in the season.
She is facing Sorana Cirstea in round two. The Romanian easily defeated Caroline Dolehide 6-2 6-3 in her first-round match. She has now won 20 matches out of 30 this season on hard court and won the Tennis in the Land title just last month.
Muchova dominates the head-to-head as she leads 6-1, with all matches having been played on hard court. They faced each other just last month in the second-round of the US Open and it proved to be a close affair, with the Czech squeezing through 7-6 6-7 6-4.
This is likely to be one of the more interesting second-round clashes in Beijing. Muchova’s all-court game and previous success against Cirstea makes her the favourite, but the Romanian should not be counted out completely.
