Karolina Muchova increased her winning run to eight matches at Indian Wells as she reached the round-of-16. However, she would go no further after a heavy defeat to Iga Swiatek. Muchova won her first title since 2019 in Doha last month, which was her maiden WTA 1000 crown. The Czech received a bye in the first-round.
She now faces Camila Osorio. The Colombian defeated Katerina Siniakova in her first-round match. Osorio stormed ahead after the first set but went 4-2 down in the second. Nevertheless, she reeled off the last four games to win 6-1 6-4 after one hour and 19 minutes.
Muchova is the clear favourite for this one, though she doesn’t have the best record at this event and Osorio can challenge higher-ranked players, having just beaten Iva Jovic and taken Naomi Osaka to a deciding set at Indian Wells. The Colombian also has a title to her name in 2026 after winning the Philippines Open, so Muchova cannot afford a slow start.
