Karen Khachanov booked his place in the second-round of the French Open with a largely comfortable win over Arthur Gea. The Russian comfortably took the first set but had to dig deep in the second as he broke when Gea was serving to level the match up. Khachanov won that set on a tiebreak and raced to victory in the third to claim a 6-3 7-6 (3) 6-0 win. His best result of the clay court season was a quarter-final appearance at the Italian Open earlier this month.
Marco Trungelliti notched up his first win at Roland Garros since 2018 as he ended a four-match losing run in the first-round. Trungelliti was broken on just one occasion as he comfortably got past Kyrian Jacquet, winning 6-4 6-2 6-2 after one hour and 45 minutes. He broke into the top 100 for the first time in his career earlier this year, following his run to the final in Marrakesh.
Khachanov’s level has improved in recent weeks, and the Russian knows what it takes to put together a deep run at a Grand Slam, having reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros on two previous occasions.
