Joao Fonseca scored a first win over Karen Khachanov to reach the third round at Indian Wells.

The Brazilian saved two match points as he notched up a 4-6 7-6 6-4 success to tee up a showdown with Tommy Paul.

The American had a far less dramatic outing and was in fairly ruthless mood as he despatched Zizou Bergs 6-1 6-2. 

The 23rd seed Paul won their previous clash 7-6 7-6 in Madrid last year and this may well be just as hard-fought. 

Tommy looks to have got his groove on at the moment and has the extra desire to do well on home turf. He could have the edge beyond the high-octane baseline exchanges but expect plenty of games in a clash that could be a spectacular watch.
