Joao Fonseca vs Rafael Jodar prediction

One of the matches of the third round will see two teenage talents locking horns in Madrid.

Much has been made of the rise of Joao Fonseca over the past 12 months or so, but fellow 19-year-old Rafael Jodar has been enjoying a meteoric surge up the rankings this year, which means just 11 places separate them in the rankings.

World number 31 Fonseca has been showing more consistency in 2026 and will be fresh for this maiden tussle after being handed a walkover against Marin Cilic.

Jodar really caught the eye to wow the Spanish crowd as he crushed fifth seed Alex de Minaur 6-3 6-1 with some ferociously, big hitting.

The forehand and serve will be dominant in this showdown and it’s a tough call, but Jodar may shade this in his homeland and kick off what may well become an intense rivalry in the years ahead.
