Joao Fonseca vs Alexander Zverev prediction
Joao Fonseca reached his first ever Masters 1000 quarter-final as he comfortably got past Matteo Berrettini in straight sets. Berrettini was coming into this match on the back of a double-bagel victory over Daniil Medvedev, but he was broken on four occasions as Fonseca wrapped up a 6-3 6-2 win after just an hour and 13 minutes.
He now faces world number three Alexander Zverev. He advanced to the last eight at the event for the first time since 2022 with a win over Zizou Bergs. Zverev was on the brink of an exit to Cristian Garin in the previous round, but this was a more comfortable result for the three-time Grand Slam finalist. He was broken when serving for the match initially, but broke Bergs again and sealed a 6-2 7-5 win.
Fonseca is growing in confidence with every victory, and he will give Zverev problems if he is awarded time to strike off either wing, and especially with his forehand. The German could be vulnerable to an upset here.
