The Frenchman claimed a tight 6-7 7-6 7-6 win over the American to tee up a fourth career clash with Jiri Lehecka.

The Czech is now guaranteed to rise to a career-high on Monday after ending qualifier Martin Landaluce’s run with a 7-6 7-5 victory.

Fils leads the match-up 2-1 and swept to a 6-3 6-3 success when they last met in Doha recently. 

Lehecka is in far better form over this fortnight and full of confidence so this should be much closer.

Both players are producing top tennis and serving extremely well so don’t be surprised to see more breakers in this one and a high number of games.
