Jiri Lehecka easily defeated Jordan Thompson 6-4 6-2 6-1 to make it through to the second-round of the French Open. The 23-year-old has never gone beyond that stage of Roland Garros and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be standing in his way this time around.

Davidovich Fokina safely booked his place in round two with a four set win over compatriot Pablo Llamas Ruiz. He had the opportunity to serve out the match in straight sets but was broken and ended up losing the set on a tiebreak. He went down early on in the fourth but came back to win 6-3 6-2 6-7 6-3. 

Lehecka leads the head-to-head 2-0 but this will be their first match on clay, which is Davidovich Fokina’s preferred surface, though his form heading into this slam had taken a slide after reaching the semi-finals of Monte-Carlo in early April.

This will likely be a close clash given there’s just five places separating the pair in the world rankings, but Davidovich Fokina may just have enough to squeeze through.
