Jessika Ponchet qualified for the Korea Open after two straight wins. Ponchet is currently ranked 167 and failed to make it out of qualifying for all four majors this season. However, she has been competitive on the WTA Tour, with two quarter-final appearances in Rouen and Prague, while she has also reached the last four of four separate ITF tournaments.
Ella Seidel also qualified for the event and will be her opponent in the first-round. The German is just 20-years-old but now up to her highest ranking of 101 in the world.
