Pegula dropped just one set on her way to the title and has reached the semi-finals or better of every tournament she has competed in since the US Open. The American faces Donna Vekic in the second-round. The Croatian ended a three-match losing run in the first-round as she impressively defeated Tereza Valentova in straight sets. Vekic found her level in two tiebreaks to win 7-6 (4) 7-6 (4) after two hours and 38 minutes.
Pegula leads the head-to-head 2-0 and has not dropped a set to Vekic. She has become one of the most consistent players on tour, and she will be expected to come out on top with a comfortable win here.
