Jessica Bouzas Maneiro cruised into the second-round of the Madrid Open as she defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia once again in 2026. Bouzas Maneiro had already got the better of the Brazilian at Indian Wells last month, but this was a far more resounding result as she strolled to a 6-1 6-1 win after one hour and 14 minutes.
Her next opponent is Diana Shnaider, who received a bye in round one. The Russian competed in Stuttgart last week, winning her first match against Tamara Korpatsch but then losing to top seed and eventual winner Elena Rybakina. Shnaider also advanced to the quarter-finals of the Charleston Open at the start of this month.
Despite her thumping win in round one, Bouzas Maneiro has still struggled in terms of form this season, with nine losses from 14 matches overall. She is still a dangerous player, but the seeded Shnaider will start this match as the firm favourite.
