Jenson Brooksby recorded his first ever victory at Roland Garros as he defeated Jaime Faria 6-1 3-6 6-3 6-2 to book a place in the second-round. Brooksby, who won a clay court title in Houston nearly two months ago, now faces Sebastian Korda.
Korda also won in four sets, as he navigated the potential threat of Luciano Darderi with a 6-2 4-6 6-3 6-2 victory in round one. The Italian can be a tricky opponent on clay and Korda was struggling for form heading into Roland Garros, but the American produced one of his most impressive recent performances to make it through.
Korda has the far greater pedigree and did manage to reach the third-round here last year. He has the stronger all-round game and is likely to dictate much of the points due to his offensive style. Brooksby is a competent counter-puncher and has a high rally tolerance but it might not be enough to defeat Korda. We lean towards the world number 23 getting through.
