Jelena Ostapenko vs Mariana Stakusic prediction

Jelena Ostapenko’s run at the US Open ended in acrimonious fashion, as she lost to Taylor Townsend and was embroiled in an argument with the American after the match, which led to Ostapenko releasing a statement of apology a few days later. Her recent overall form has been middling and she has a negative win-loss record on hard courts this season, having lost 11 of her 19 matches on the surface.

She will face Mariana Stakusic after the Canadian delivered an incredible comeback against Polina Kudermetova in round one. Stakusic trailed the Russian by a set and a double break but came from 4-0 down in the second to take the match into a decider. Kudermetova led 3-1 in the third set but Stakusic again came back to win 3-6 7-5 6-4.

They have played once before, and it occurred at this very point of the event last year. Stakusic upset the number one seed in three sets. This could be a tricky encounter for the Latvian and we could see her being taken to three sets.
