Jaume Munar reached the second-round of the French Open for the fifth time after an impressive straight sets win over Camilo Ugo Carabelli. It was a controlled performance from the Spaniard, who won 6-4 6-1 7-5 after two hours and 40 minutes. It was a strong serving performance from Munar, who restricted the Argentine to just four break points throughout the whole match and won 82% of his first serve points.
He has never reached the third-round of Roland Garros before but he will have his work cut out against Arthur Fils, who won his first match at his home slam. Fils defeated Nicolas Jarry in four sets. The Frenchman looked set to wrap up the victory in three but lost a tight tiebreak. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old raced ahead in the fourth to win 6-3 6-4 6-7 6-3.
Fils wasn’t broken during the entire match but was very wasteful when it came to taking his break points, converting just three of a possible 16 opportunities. He came from a set down to defeat Munar in Hamburg last year on clay and we expect the Frenchman to win again.
