Jaqueline Cristian produced a brilliant performance as she defeated fourth seed Clara Tauson in straight sets. The Romanian progressed to the quarter-finals as she made a fast start and broke at the end of the second to win 6-1 7-5. She was not broken on serve throughout the match, saving four break points in total.

Her next opponent is Daria Kasatkina. She is through to her first tour-level quarter-final of the season as she comfortably got past Peyton Stearns. The Australian also began strongly, winning 6-1 6-4. 

Kasatkina leads the head-to-head 3-1 and 1-0 on clay. She won the first three meetings, including at the quarter-final stage of the Charleston Open two years ago as she came from a set down to win. However, Cristian won their most recent encounter in Adelaide this year, conceding just four games in total.
