Jannik Sinner brought the curtain down on Richard Gasquet’s career last time out, as he defeated the veteran 6-3 6-0 6-4. It was a very professional performance from the world number one, who was always in control and never lost his serve. He now takes on Jiri Lehecka as he continues his quest for a fourth Grand Slam title.
Lehecka picked up a fine win in the second-round, as he defeated Monte-Carlo Masters semi-finalist Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in four sets. The Czech won 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-2 to make the third-round at Roland Garros for the very first time. Lehecka has struggled for much of the clay court season but did make the quarter-finals in Hamburg last week and has found form at the right time.
He will have his work cut out against Sinner however, with the Italian leading their head-to-head 2-0 after two straight set wins in Indian Wells and Beijing last year. This will be their first match on clay but Sinner has looked pretty imperious so far and he’s good value for another comfortable victory despite the higher-ranked opponent.
