Jannik Sinner vs Casper Ruud prediction

Jannik Sinner notched up his 33rd Masters 1000 victory in succession as he got past Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final of the Italian Open. The world number one, who is now just one match away from completing the set of titles in the series, required three sets to beat Medvedev in a rain-interrupted match. He made a stunning start and took the first set with ease, but the Russian fought back in the second and levelled after breaking as Sinner was serving to stay in the set. Sinner reasserted control in the decider as he went a break up, but rain led to the match having to be completed the next day. Nevertheless, he returned to win 6-2 5-7 6-4.

He goes up against Casper Ruud as the Norwegian got past Luciano Darderi in comfortable fashion. Ruud reached his first final in Rome after easing to victory, winning 6-1 6-1. He is now set to return to the top 20 of the world rankings after this week.

Sinner leads the head-to-head 4-0 and 1-0 on clay. They played each other at the quarter-final stage of this event last year, with the four-time Grand Slam champion storming to a 6-0 6-1 victory. He did struggle at times physically against Medvedev, but he will be incredibly motivated to complete the Career Golden Masters, along with becoming the first Italian male player to win his home event since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
