Jan-Lennard Struff advanced from the first-round of the Italian Open as he defeated Francisco Comesana in straight sets. He was not broken on serve and was comfortable throughout, winning 6-2 6-4 after one hour and 21 minutes. The German is yet to progress beyond the second-round of a tournament in 2026.
His second-round opponent is Jiri Lehecka. The Czech continued his strong run as he won three matches in a row at the Madrid Open to advance to the quarter-finals. However, he was then defeated by Arthur Fils, with the Frenchman exacting his revenge following his loss to Lehecka in the semi-finals of the Miami Open in March.
Lehecka leads the head-to-head 2-0 and 1-0 on clay. He overcame Struff in five sets at the French Open in 2023, but he’s a much stronger player these days and this is likely to be a more comfortable outing for the world number 13.
