Jakub Mensik vs Nuno Borges Prediction

Jakub Mensik produced an outstanding performance on Wednesday as he beat Ben Shelton in the late match in Auckland. The Czech talent overcame the top seed over three sets and really impressed in that victory.

It was his second successive three-set match so the only concern would be fatigue but that is unlikely to be factor so early in the season and ahead of the Australian Open.

Mensik is playing with real confidence right now and he will fancy his chances of going all the way.

He meets Nuno Borges who was the man to knock him out in the US Open last Autumn. That loss came in five sets and Mensik was leading 1-0 and 2-1 before losing the fourth and fifth sets.

Borges has really come on over the last 12 months and established himself as the top Portuguese player on the Tour. He too has had two three-set matches against Luca Darderi and Mariano Navone so that means the pair come in on a level playing field.

Borges has the confidence of having won their only previous meeting but Mensik was the better for a fair chunk of that match. We like his game right now and think he can kick on and avenge that US Open loss here.
