Jacob Fearnley vs Ugo Humbert prediction
Jacob Fearnley was impressively efficient in his first-round match as he defeated three-time Grand Slam champion and Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka in straight sets to win at Roland Garros for the first time. The British number two won a tight first set and then dominated the rest of the match, winning 7-6 6-3 6-2.
He takes on Ugo Humbert in round two. The Frenchman won just his second match at his home slam after defeating Christopher O’Connell 7-5 6-3 7-6. Humbert’s clay court preparations have been blighted by a hand injury, but he opted to rest last week and not compete in a major event. He now seems to be pain-free and looked in control throughout his first-round match.
Though Humbert is the higher ranked player by around 30 places, his game is not particularly effective on clay while Fearnley has enjoyed some encouraging results this season on the surface. We expect this one to go the distance.
