Jacob Fearnley vs Stan Wawrinka prediction
Jacob Fearnley’s game has translated pretty well on clay over the past six weeks or so. His best tournament was in Madrid as he made it through two qualifying stages and defeated 19th seed Tomas Machac before a close two set defeat to Grigor Dimitrov in the third-round. He also registered second-round finishes in Barcelona and Rome. The Briton lost to Alexei Popyrin in the second-round of his most recent event in Geneva but still holds a 9-5 win-loss record overall on the surface this season.
Ten years on from his slam victory here, Stan Wawrinka begins yet another Grand Slam campaign. The 40-year-old was handed a wildcard and hasn’t competed for two weeks, with his last tournament being a Challenger event in Bordeaux which saw him lose to Billy Harris in round one. He fared a lot better in the event a week prior to that, as he made the final in Aix-en-Provence but lost out to Borna Coric. That was the veteran’s best result of the season so far.
Wawrinka will receive great support from the Parisian crowd and is likely to push Fearnley all the way but the Brit, who is 16 years his junior, should outlast the Swiss and make it through.
Jacob Fearnley vs Stan Wawrinka tip: Jacob Fearnley to win 3-1 or 3-2
