Jack Draper advanced to the third-round of the Italian Open with a straight sets win over Luciano Darderi. The world number five made a very fast start but was forced to save a plethora of break points in the second set before earning a late break to win 6-1 6-4.
He now is up against Vit Kopriva as the Czech player produced a fine performance to come from a set down to defeat 32nd seed Sebastian Baez. He now has four wins this week including qualifying and proved that his win over Quentin Halys in the first-round of the tournament was no fluke with victory over Rio Open winner Baez.
They have played each other before on one occasion, with the encounter occurring on clay at the BMW Open in Munich a year ago. Draper overcame a stumble in the second set to win 6-1 5-7 6-4.
Kopriva will be full of confidence after a great run this week but Draper, who has the joint most Masters 1000 wins this season with 13, is reaching a new level on clay and should win this in straight sets.
