There is guaranteed to be a Romanian in the final of this year’s Iasi Open.

Jaqueline Cristian will face Irina-Camelia Begu for a chance to fight for the trophy in a semi-final that will certainly capture the imagination of the home crowd.

The second seed, Cristian maintained her perfect run to this stage with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Pannas Udvardy, while seventh seed, Begu ended the surprise run of Anna Siskova with a hard-fought 6-2 3-6 7-5 win.

This is a second meeting between the pair with Begu winning 6-4 6-0 in Bucharest way back in 2017.

That match is unlikely to have too much impact on the outcome of this showdown, with Cristian a far tough proposition now, while Begu’s best years look to be behind her.
