Hubert Hurkacz vs Tommy Paul prediction
Hubert Hurkacz managed to get through a close match in round four, outlasting Jakub Mensik 7-6 4-6 7-6 as he continues his deepest run at a tournament since Rotterdam in February. Hurkacz couldn’t manage to break the Mensik serve but won both tiebreaks to advance. This tournament has been a real step in the right direction for the Pole who had played just one clay court match leading up to the event.
He now goes up against Tommy Paul as he beat Alex de Minaur for the first time to make the last eight. At the sixth attempt against the Australian, Paul won 7-5 6-3. Paul, who made the semi-finals here in Rome last year, has come alive once again in this event after suffering a fourth-round exit in Madrid and reaching the semi-finals in Houston at his other clay court events.
This will be a rematch of last year, as Paul defeated Hurkacz in three sets in the quarter-finals in Rome. That was their only encounter on clay, with the American leading the head-to-head 2-1. There is very little between the two but we see a similar result this time around.
