Hubert Hurkacz vs Jakub Mensik prediction
Hubert Hurkacz overcame a slump in the second set to beat Marcos Giron 6-3 1-6 6-1 and reach the fourth-round of the Italian Open. This is the first time the Pole has won consecutive matches of a tournament since his run to the semi-finals of the Rotterdam Open in February. Hurkacz seems to be finding a bit of form on the surface ahead of the French Open which begins in less than two weeks.
He will now face Jakub Mensik who made it past Fabian Marozsan in straight sets. The Czech failed to serve out the second set at 5-3 but still took the set on a tiebreak to advance. Despite that misfire, his serve was mostly reliable as he slammed down 10 aces and won 83% of first serve points on his way to winning 6-4 7-6.
This will be their first match on clay, but they’ve played once before in the second-round of last year’s Australian Open, with Hurkacz winning a five set thriller. These two big servers are likely to cancel each other out for large parts of the match but we back Mensik to edge through in three sets.
