Hoffenheim preview: Europe in their sights

It may have been inconsistent so far for Hoffenheim in the 2025-26 campaign, but they’ve picked up enough points to reach double-figures and find themselves well-placed to potentially make a big jump this weekend if they can get the better of an opponent languishing inside the automatic relegation zone.

Hoffenheim’s last game was arguably their best performance of the season which saw them come away with a massive three points after beating St. Pauli by three goals to nil. Solid at the back, full of cutting edge in attack, just what the doctor ordered for Hoffenheim.

Heidenheim preview: One win in seven

No team have lost more games so far this season in the Bundesliga than Heidenheim, with five defeats from seven games, level only with Mainz. But one win and a draw under their belt as well keeps Frank Schmidt’s side above Borussia Monchengladbach for the time being, but they are inside the bottom two.

If Heidenheim are to spark a revival, they must find a way to start picking up points on the road. They are still yet to pick up a single point away from home and they are running into a Hoffenheim side with momentum in their favour after that St. Pauli victory. Averaging less than a goal a game as it stands isn’t going to cut it.

Hoffenheim team news: Longer term absentees

Ahead of their clash with Heidenheim this weekend, Hoffenheim will remain without longer term defensive absentees Koki Machida and Valentin Gendrey, whilst Czechia international forward Adam Hlozek is also unavailable.

Predicted XI: Baumann; Coufal, Hranac, Hajdari, Bernardo; Kramaric, Burger, Avdullahu, Toure; Lemperle, Asllani

Unavailable: Machida (Injured), Gendrey (Injured), Hlozek (Injured)

Heidenheim team news: Still no Conteh or Paqarada

Ahead of their trip to Hoffenheim, Heidenheim have their own trio of confirmed absentees as goalkeeper Frank Feller is sidelined alongside defender Leart Paqarada and forward Sirlord Conteh.

Predicted XI: Ramaj; Traore, Mainka, Siersleben, Fohrenbach; Beck, Dorsch, Schoppner, Ibrahimovic; Kaufmann, Zivzivadze

Unavailable: Feller (Injured), Paqarada (Injured), Conteh (Injured)

Hoffenheim vs Heidenheim prediction

Hoffenheim locked to have really unlocked something offensively last time out in what was an eye-catching triumph. Now it’s about backing that result up at home and not giving Heidenheim a free pass into this game through individual errors. When comparing the two clubs, Hoffenheim really should be dominating proceedings across the 90 minutes.

Whilst Hoffenheim may have to be patient and need to stay on their guard, making sure they don’t get hit on the counter-attack, they’ve got all the tools needed to succeed here. Maintain the levels of performance they showed at St. Pauli and the hosts should come out on top against Schmidt’s struggling side.
