Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder prediction

Hobart Hurricanes will have the fondest memories of when they last faced Sydney Thunder, back in the final of BBL 14, which saw them finally become Big Bash champions for the first time in their history. The star of that final was Mitchell Owen, who struck an incredible 108 in the final, his second century of the competition which led to a successful run chase of 183. Sydney Thunder captain David Warner utilised all his bowlers but had no answer to Owen in that game.

The hard-hitting batter 452 runs over the course of last season’s BBL, the most of any player and will be crucial to Hobart’s hopes of defending their title. Back on the ground which he captured the attention of the cricketing world, Owen looks to smash the Hurricanes off to a good start against the Thunder, regardless of whether they are setting or chasing a target.

Warner will have plenty of strong bowlers to choose from, despite the late withdrawal of Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin due to injury. But on what is expected to be a good pitch for batting, expect Owen to accumulate quickly and backing him to score over 24.5 match runs warrants significant consideration, regardless of the result.
