Henrique Rocha cruised past David Jorda Sanchis and Nicolai Budkov Kjaer in qualifying and is now into the main draw of this tournament. That capped off a strong March for the Portuguese, as he won a Challenger event in Brasilia and also reached a final in Santiago. He was unable to pick up back-to-back titles as he was defeated by Genaro Alberto Oliveri in straight sets. His last tournament was less impressive as he lost in the first-round of an event in Asuncion, but he is back on track after those qualifying victories.
He faces Marco Trungelliti in round one. Trungelliti also qualified for the event after two straight set wins. He also picked up a title on the Challenger Tour this month as he won in Kigali. He has nine wins from 10 matches on clay this season.
Trungelliti leads the head-to-head 2-0 and 1-0 on clay, but this is their first tour-level match. They faced each other earlier this year in Australian Open qualifying, with the Argentine winning in three sets. This should be a close match between two players who have shown themselves to be very capable clay courters at lower-level events.
