Henrique Rocha won his first Grand Slam match in dramatic fashion as he defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili in five sets. The Portuguese won a mammoth third set tiebreak, eventually winning 7-6 2-6 7-6 2-6 6-2 against his far more experienced opponent. The 21-year-old now takes on Jakub Mensik.
Mensik beat Alexandre Muller 7-5 6-7 7-5 6-3 in a close four set match. The Czech teenager was forced to handle a partisan home crowd, who jeered and booed him after he celebrated taking the crucial third set. He fired down 20 aces, won 81% of points on his first serve, and had 60 winners in total.
Mensik will likely have an easier time of things in the next round after such a tough first-round opponent, and we expect the Miami Open champion to make it through to the third-round of the tournament for the first time in his career in straight sets.
