Heidenheim preview: Losing record now at four

Heidenheim failed to close the gap on any of their relegation rivals last weekend after losing 1-0 away to Augsburg. They just didn’t have the quality required and when you’re down at the bottom of the table, clean sheets are extremely hard to come by, leading to them being edged out and suffering a fourth straight defeat.

They currently are six points adrift of 16th-placed Werder Bremen and when considering that Werder face 17th-placed St. Pauli earlier on Sunday, this is a huge opportunity from Heidenheim’s point of view. Unfortunately, there is formidable opposition standing in their way.

Stuttgart preview: Much-needed response

Stuttgart showed great character to recover quickly from a frustrating defeat at the hands of St. Pauli, taking down FC Cologne by three goals to one in a commanding showing. Demirovic was crucial up top, scoring the opener before making it 2-1 with six minutes left. Deniz Undav then went on to seal the three points in second half stoppage time.

Since then, Sebastian Hoeness’ side blew away Celtic in the Europa League this past Thursday night, winning 1-4 at Parkhead to leave themselves in an excellent position to progress ahead of the second leg. For now though, it’s all about the Bundesliga and further cementing their place in the top four.

Heidenheim team news: Almost at full health

Only Leart Paqarada is set to be unavailable for Heidenheim, the left-back is still recovering from a knee injury but aside from him, the hosts should be at full-strength for this game.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Ramaj; Busch, Mainka, Gimber; C. Conteh, Niehues, Schoppner, Behrens; Dinkci, Pieringer, Ibrahimovic

Unavailable: Paqarada (Injured)

Stuttgart team news: Visitors missing three

Stuttgart won’t be able to call upon Diehl, Jovanovic and Zagadou for this encounter. The latter has a thigh injury, whilst Jovanovic misses out with a back problem.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Leweling, Undav, Fuhrich; Demirovic

Unavailable: Diehl (Injured), Jovanovic (Injured), Zagadou (Injured)

Heidenheim vs Stuttgart prediction

Heidenheim are getting desperate at this point and their effort cannot be called into question. Playing at home and against a team who were beaten by another relegation battler in their last Bundesliga away fixture should breed confidence. However, it’s unlikely that Stuttgart will slip up twice on the road to struggling opposition.

The attacking quality of Stuttgart is expected to just overwhelm this Heidenheim side, whose backline are likely in for a long evening when considering how potent Hoeness’ men have looked over this past week. Any outcome other than an away win would be considered a surprise at the Voith-Arena.
