Hanne Vandewinkel competed in Parma last time out, ending a three-match losing run as she won in the first-round against Whitney Osuigwe. However, she was unable to get past the second-round after a defeat to Dayana Yastremska. She failed to qualify for Madrid or Rome, and she is currently ranked just inside the top 100 of the world rankings.
Vandewinkel faces Panna Udvardy in the first-round. Udvary has reached a final on the WTA Tour this season, losing to Marie Bouzkova in Bogota. That was the first tour-level final of her career, but her results have been largely disappointing apart from that. She advanced to the second-round of the Italian Open earlier this month, going on to lose to Elise Mertens in straight sets.
