Three points away at Hamburg could see Stuttgart move back into the top four depending on results the previous day.

Hamburg preview: Out of form

The reality of life back in the Bundesliga continues to hit Hamburg hard. After losing narrowly to Augsburg last time out, Merlin Polzin’s men have picked up just a single point over the course of their last five Bundesliga fixtures, although that point did come against a team at the top end of the table in Borussia Dortmund.

They’ll need to put in a performance similar to what we saw in that game if they are to get anything from Stuttgart and it all starts with improving their efficiency from an attacking perspective. Playing at home could be what helps them on that front.

Stuttgart preview: Battling back

Twice Stuttgart looked down and out in their barnstorming clash with Borussia Dortmund last weekend and twice, Sebastian Hoeness’ side battled back to stun the hosts and claim what could prove to be a very important point. Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Stuttgart came back to level and after conceding a third goal with a minute of normal time left to play, their race appeared to be run.

But Deniz Undav had something to say about that and his goal in the first minute of second half stoppage time completed a memorable hat-trick for him and earned Stuttgart a 3-3 draw against their Champions League chasing rivals at Signal Iduna Park.

Hamburg team news: Omari out

Hamburg are confirmed to be without just one player as it stands, centre-back Warmed Omari, although he could well be joined on the sidelines by Daniel Elfadli and Yussuf Poulsen.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Heuer Fernandes; Capaldo, Vuskovic, Torunarigha; Gocholeishvili, Sambi Lokonga, Remberg, Muheim; Philippe, Konigsdorffer, Dompe

Unavailable: Omari (Injured)

Questionable: Elfadli (Injured), Poulsen (Injured)

Stuttgart team news: Tomas a late call

Tiago Tomas is struggling to be recover from a muscle injury and faces a late fitness test leading up to this match. Both Ermedin Demirovic and Dan-Axel Zagadou won’t be available to Hoeness.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Vagnoman, Jeltsch, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Andres, Stiller; Leweling, El Khannouss, Fuhrich; Undav

Unavailable: Demirovic (Injured), Diehl (Injured), Drljaca (Injured), Keitel (Injured), Zagadou (Injured)

Questionable: Tomas (Injured)

Hamburg vs Stuttgart prediction

The offensive play of Stuttgart right now makes them serious contenders to win every game they play. They’ve now racked up at least two goals in each of their last four matches in all competitions, finding a net 12 times across that quartet of fixtures. Key to their goalscoring exploits has been Undav. With Demirovic injured, Undav is absolutely crucial to Stuttgart’s attacking success and six of those 12 goals over their last four games have been scored by the German.

Hamburg will struggle to keep Stuttgart and Undav at bay over the course of 90 minutes and when taking into account their recent results and lack of confidence, it’s hard not to see the red-hot striker having his say once again. Back Undav to get on the scoresheet once more at some point in this contest.

Hamburg vs Stuttgart tip: Deniz Undav to score anytime
