Hamad Medjedovic vs Valentin Royer prediction
Hamad Medjedovic has enjoyed a very encouraging clay court season up to this point. He won a Challenger event in Naples at the end of March, beating Daniel Altmaier in the final. He was on the end of a tough defeat in round one of the Grand Prix Hassan II to Vit Kopriva, but he bounced back with an exceptional run in Barcelona. He won five matches in a row, including the qualifying rounds, to make the semi-finals. He took the first set against Andrey Rublev but went on to lose in three.
He faces Valentin Royer in the first-round of the Italian Open. Royer did show some form at Challenger level last month. The Frenchman progressed to the quarter-finals in Monza and then advanced to a final in Oeiras, losing to Roman Safiullin. However, he has struggled to make an impact on the ATP this season.
This is their first ATP meeting, but Medjedovic has won two previous meetings on clay at lower-level events. If he competes as strongly as he did in Barcelona, he will give himself a strong chance of coming through this one.
