Medjedovic was broken towards the end of the first set, but he responded in sets two and three to win 4-6 6-3 6-4. The Serb had beaten Joao Fonseca in the previous round, and he can now look forward to a first round-of-16 appearance at a Masters tournament.
His opponent is Martin Landaluce. The Spaniard only entered the main draw as a lucky loser, but he is through to this stage of a Masters event for the second time this season following a straight sets win over Mattia Bellucci. Landaluce dropped just seven points on serve all match as he won 6-4 6-3.
Medjedovic will be the favourite, but he’s likely to find it tough if Landaluce replicates his display on serve here. This could go all the way to a deciding set.
