Hailey Baptiste vs Tatjana Maria prediction

Hailey Baptiste reached the second-round of Indian Wells last time out. She came from a set down to defeat Emiliana Arango in round one and then pushed world number two Elena Rybakina to a deciding set in her next match. Rybakina would go on to win in three sets. Nevertheless, Baptiste can push higher-ranked opponents and did show her quality at the Abu Dhabi Open last month when she made the semi-finals.

Tatjana Maria is her first-round opponent in Miami. The German showed some fight against Sorana Cirstea in the first-round of Indian Wells, but ultimately went down in three sets. That increased Maria’s losing streak to six matches, and she has not tasted victory since her first-round win at the Philippines Open in late January.

Baptiste is the heavy favourite for this one and will be expected to win, possibly in straight sets as Maria continues to toil on the tour.
