The Go Ahead Eagles, after winning the KNVB Cup last season, come into this one on the back of a slow-ish start to the Eredivisie campaign, but they have now enjoyed back-to-back victories ahead of this one. After easing past Volendam by three goals to nil after the September international break, they then defeated PEC Zwolle 2-0.
They now face an FCSB side that underwhelmed in European qualification last season, including a defeat to Shkendija in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The Romanians have managed just one victory in their ten matches in the Romanian top-flight, matching their woeful European form, too.
FCSB have done well to squeeze into the UEFA Europa League given their form, but the Go Ahead Eagles have to be viewed as favourites for a famous European victory.
